Wawamouse's 2025 Ao3 Summary

Wisely or unwisely, I have decided to do my own AO3 Wrapped-of-sorts for the fics I posted on Ao3 in 2025.

(This was done by setting the date updated range to 2025 and also going to the 2025 Stats page.)

Final Thoughts:

I was a bit surprised that Beecher and Ryan made it into the top 5 characters I wrote this year. I guess it had to be somebody, although I don't really consider myself a writer for either. Between the two of them, I definitely have given Beecher more screen time this year, particularly in Death Wish with the recurring cafeteria B/K background drama, lol. I guess Ryan just snuck into the 9 fics as well.

Hm... managed to write one F/F (ish) fic this year? Hopefully we get that number up next year, although I'm not holding my breath. I don't care for writing any of the hacks, really, which really limits the options for Oz lesbians, lol. There's always M/C genderbend, I suppose...

My "Top 5 Additional Tags" sort of made me laugh in the realisation of how unvaried I am in tagging my fics. I really just add the same old, same old. At one point earlier in the year (maybe last year?I forget), I tried tagging sexual acts that appeared in the fics, too, but I sensed that that actually turned readers off from reading the fics, and I find it a bit of an odd practice to begin with, anyway. Makes more sense for larger fandoms, where I've seen it done, but I guess over-tagging has always seemed somewhat pointless to me and the small fandoms I tend to write for because the options are so limited, LOL. Kind of related, I hope nobody of my like 3 readers is getting too excited for the M/M/M tag on Misery, because it's really not going to amount to much at all, jsyk. Floptina Threesome, found dead in the water. Don't even think about it. It's more like a Beware Of Dog sign on the fic right now at this point.

I really hope I finish Misery in 2026, or at least get close.

I'd like to write more Alonzo/Jaime or Alonzo/Enrique in 2026, too. Perhaps even Alonzo/Ryan, to contribute to 9cbff's fun? I find I struggle a bit to write the POV of someone taking a genuine romantic or sexual interest in Ryan, no shade to Dean Winters—call me stubborn and unimaginative, I guess—so that would be an interesting challenge outside of making it a crack fic. 

Speaking of crack, though... I had a lot of fun writing Anything For A Friend, Bells Are Ringing, and In Flagrante Delicto so writing more lighthearted fics is definitely a goal for next year. I also liked featuring more of the Oz ensemble in various fics this year, so that's another path I'd like to explore. Working on my most recent Dress Factory contribution also reminded me that I want to work more Poet and Jia Kenmin into my fics. Separately and together as a sort of random duo match-up I've had in my mind since writing them together in In Perpetuity this year. Another Jia Kenmin & Cyril fic would be fun, too. Maybe one that's more involved, since all the things I've written with Jia Kenmin so far are quite short... We'll see!

Additionally, I'd like to write more for Kareem, although I find his voice/POV difficult to capture. I think it'd be fun to explore more Kareem & Omar—always a duo I think is underrated.

I was also surprised to see Ryan in your top 5! There's 4 fics I can think of (Severance AU, the one from drabble tree, and his brief cameo in both Death Wish and Misery)...then again, I can only think of 3 for Beecher, but like you said he played more of a role in those. I guess they do just show up, lol.

M/C GENDERBEND!!! YES!!! Would love to see it...also, interesting that you think tagging the specific sex acts was putting readers off; I don't find it's something I pay attention to much, but maybe if people are looking to read specific things they might get picky? Tag etiquette is still not something I fully understand, tbh, maybe never will. I do like overtagging wrt characters/ships that are less prevalent (within reason - if it's just a passing background mention, probably not, but if they've got dialogue I usually include it) but other than that it seems best to keep things simple, I really doubt most people are reading/searching most tags. But also, idk!

The M/M/M tag on Misery definitely has me curious, but given the characters and the way the story's been going, no, I am not expecting it to be anything standard, lol. Beware of Dog (the dog is an unusually large raccoon)

Not knowing if you're going to finish Misery in 2026 is somewhat exciting to me. Many more Miseries...I mean, of course I do hope you'll finish it. But yay many more Miseries. I feel the same about MKoG (though I'm determined to finish BC next year, goddamnit).

Yay more Alonzo/Jaime! It would be great to see more of them...and Alonzo/Enrique of course <3 which has somehow made its way to being one of my top Oz ships, haha! I'm hoping to write a lot more of them next year too. I would be so curious to see a Wawa take on Alonzo/Ryan - though I do agree with you about writing the POV of someone taking a romantic/sexual interest in Ryan, it's definitely more challenging than the other way around, since you can make Ryan obsess over anything, lol.

Re: more lighthearted stuff, the high school AU was also super fun! This comment is turning into mostly just me nodding and going YES at everything you're saying at this point, but YES more Jia please...he's great and I'd love to read more ft. him. And more Omar and Kareem!

Time loop fic 🙏 and OOO yes bodyswap AU would be awesome. Is one of these the bodysnatchers AU...I so desperately want the bodysnatchers AU...anyways, fun round up and a lot of exciting ideas for next year :3

Yeah, just at the rate Misery is going, who knows? If I was writing at a decent pace, maybe I'd have greater hope for finishing it next year, but I'm not, so again, who knows? I'm taking it really easy with that WIP atp as I don't feel like anyone's urgently demanding updates (its sprawling nature has left is somewhat plotless). I'm interested in seeing where your fics go in the coming year, though! Especially since you've alluded to both being part of a bigger 'verse/plan in your head. Excited to find out how it all fits together.

The biggest roadblock for Alonzo/anyone fics for me right now is actually rounding up some plot bunnies, lol. Downside to mostly shipping him with people he never even has a chance to cross paths with, I guess. You either have to go AU (canon divergence, pre-canon, etc) or... well, yeah, straight-up AU. F. It's funny to look back and realise both of my Alonzo/Enrique fics were from this(ish) year, though. And also the Alonzo/Jaime ones. Good news for next years chances!

Also lol, I did consider referencing the high school AU as a crack fic, but then I wondered if it could really be considered crack... but yeah! That one was fun also.

HMM... I hadn't even considered the Bodysnatchers AU fic (even though I love the idea). My bulletpoint AUs are all sort of in my mind as closed boxes, but considering I ended up writing "Bells Are Ringing" which started as a bulletpoint(ish) fic... Hm... It's not completely off the table. But no, the bodyswap AU is something else—just the normal bodyswap AU trope or whatever you want to call it. I've had a doc tab open for it with a humble 200 or so words written so far, lmao. I'd like to write more of my favorite as well as common fandom tropes for Oz! I think so far all I've done is Only One Bed and the Soulmark/Soulmate AU. Oooh, another one I still want to write is a sex pollen fic 😂

Fingers crossed I don't suddenly lose all ability to write next year (somehow a constant fear despite everything)!
