Oz AU ⟶ Miguel Alvarez is the youngest of the notorious Alvarez crime family. Having grown up in the life, he prefers to keep to himself and stay out of the fray, but when his grandfather Ricardo, the leader of the El Norte gang, falls ill, Miguel is forced to reluctantly take up acting command of the business he knows best. Times have changed since Ricardo’s days, however, and without the elder Alvarez’s iron fist at the helm of the business, the neighboring factions once united through dealings with El Norte have grown restless, the greedy quietly beginning to scheme for power and control.
Not only that, but along with the mantle of leader and the mounting pressure to make a show of strength against the other local gangs, Miguel inherits the complicated dynamics within El Norte itself. Between Enrique Morales, a shrewd, ambitious lieutenant and the ruthless, foul-tempered Raoul “El Cid” Hernandez, Miguel’s authority is under constant question even from inside his own organisation. An ally comes in the form of Carmen “Chico” Guerra, a hot-blooded but loyal captain under Morales. Although seemingly sent to Miguel’s side by Morales to curry favor, Chico proves to be more help than harm. After a rocky start where they both must learn to trust the other, Chico assists Miguel in solidifying his hold over El Norte while also weeding out a police informant named Eugene Rivera. Before long, their working partnership deepens into something that lies beyond friendship or brotherhood, and when Ricardo dies, Miguel officially takes over El Norte with Chico as his right-hand man.
Just as it seems all may come together in his favor after all, increased heat from the local authorities leads Miguel to suspect that a spy may still be hiding amidst El Norte’s ranks, and as he begins to unravel the lies and deceit, all clues point to the traitor being the very one he’d least suspected: the man he’s fallen in love with.
